Best Robot Dance ever

Vergesst alles, was ihr bisher zum Thema Robot Dance gesehen habt. Die Robotboys und Poppin John machen da Moves, die eigentlich nicht möglich sind. Gut, ich bin nun wahrlich kein Tanzexperte, aber immerhin gibts den Robot Dance schon seit den 60ern - und so etwas hab ich noch nie gesehen. Die Bewegungen sehen teilweise aus, als würden sie computergenerierte Glitches sein. Sind sie aber nicht. Ganz großes Kino.

Halloween Kürbis mit Indiana-Jones-Motiv

Noch 9 Tage bis Halloween und Kürbiskünstlerin Nalini Asha Biggs hat das bisher Beste aus einem Kürbis geschnitzt (?!), was ich je gesehen habe: das Konterfei von Indiana Jones!

I’ve been doing them since I was a kid this way, and every Halloween one of these new, fancy, professional carving companies offers me a job, and I’m like, no thanks! That would take all the fun out of it. But it is the highlight of my year.

Keine Ahnung, wie genau man derart filigran schnitzen kann, aber auf ihrer Website findet ihr noch mehr Halloween-Kürbis-Arbeiten von Nalini (die nicht minder beeindruckend sind). Nice Work!

Star Wars Parkour

Ich hab ja sowieso derben Respekt vor den Fähigkeiten dieser Parkour-Leute, aber die Idee, das Ganze mal im Star-Wars-Look abzuziehen, hat schon was. Natürlich hat man bei der Vielzahl an Parkour-Videos die Moves alle schon mal gesehen, aber die Bewegungen erinnern in der Tat sehr an Jedi-Tricks, und das mag ich. Hätten Jeremy Carpenter und Sinjin Cooper das jetzt noch durchgängig mit Laserschwertern abgezogen, wäre es wirklich episch. So ist es einfach nur nett anzuschauen.

Eunoia: Gedanken steuern Wasserbewegung

Oh yes, ich liebe sowas: Lisa Park steuert in ihrem Projekt “Eunoia” die Bewegungen von Wasser allein mit ihren Gedanken. Mittels EEG werden ihre Gehirnwellen aufgezeichnet und dann in Schallwellen umgewandelt, die wiederum das Wasser in den Schalen zum Vibrieren bringt.

“Eunoia” is a performance that uses my brainwaves — collected via EEG sensor- to manipulate the motions of water. It derives from the Greek word “ey” (well) + “nous” (mind) meaning “beautiful thinking”. EEG is a brainwave detecting sensor. It measures frequencies of my brain activity (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Theta) relating to my state of consciousness while wearing it. The data collected from EEG is translated in realtime to modulate vibrations of sound with using software programs. EEG sends the information of my brain activity to Processing, which is linked with Max/MSP to receive data and generate sound from Reaktor.

Donkey Kong im Bartisch

Auf diesem zum Bartisch modifizierten Fass kann man nicht nur sein Kaltgetränk abstellen, sondern auch nebenbei Donkey Kong daddeln. Forumsmitglied griffindod von der Spielautomaten-Community Arcade Controls hat das Teil gebastelt und stellt es für $1.500 zum Verkauf. Nach eigener Aussage ist es zunächst ein Versuch, um herauszufinden, ob er mit seinem Hobby Geld verdienen kann. Ich würde sagen: Ja.

Every time friends or family see my builds they always say the same thing “Oh you should make these and sell them”, to which my answer is always the same “It’s just not worth the man hours for what I could charge”. With that being said there are people quite successfully making bar tops and selling them on a regular basis, and, I assume, turning a profit of some kind.

So, I thought I’d have a go at a ‘Build-to-sell’ project, trying to maximize the value of the finished product while keeping a very tight record of all of my costs and time to see how practical it is to build for profit. The goal is to build something fun and desirable to a decent standard, while keeping costs and man-hours to a minimum.

To clarify, this is to see if someone who builds on a regular basis can knock out a small profitable project in the interest of raising some extra bucks for their hobby.

Target Sale Price: $1,500

For legal reasons, I will be building a cabinet that is completely ready to play vertical games and has an industry standard Jamma interface to receive any game board that is compatible with that plug and controls layout.

Man kann Donkey Kong also sogar mit jedem anderen Automaten dieses Industriestandards ersetzen - sofern das nötige Know How vorhanden ist.

Tolle Idee, ich würde mir das Ding sofort ins Wohnzimmer stellen.

Dance + Beatbox = Dancebox

Wenn es irgendetwas gibt, was ich überhaupt nicht beherrsche, dann ist es Tanzen - umso beeindruckender find ich Leute wie Mike Song, die ihren Körper auf unmenschliche Weise unter Kontrolle haben und tolle Sachen damit anstellen. Zum Thema Beatboxing gibt es natürlich tausende Leute, die was drauf haben, aber KRNFX (sprich: Korean FX) macht da echt schicke Sounds. Beide Talente für sich genommen sind ja schon mies, aber das Ganze noch absolut synchron abzuziehen, das hat was.

Ursprünglich gesehen hab ich das übrigens in leicht abgewandelter Form bei Ellen DeGeneres; wer sich das auch noch anschauen möchte, klickt hier.

Rotierendes Superzellengewitter

Mike Olbinski hat das Kunststück fertig gebracht, ein rotierendes Superzellengewitter zu filmen. Der Mann hat vier Jahre gebraucht, um dieses tolle Motiv in dieser Form zu finden:

I’ve been visiting the Central Plains since 2010. Usually it’s just for a day, or three, or two…but it took until the fourth attempt to actually find what I’d been looking for. And boy did we find it.

No, there was no tornado. But that’s not really what I was after. I’m from Arizona. We don’t get structure like this. Clouds that rotate and look like alien spacecraft hanging over the Earth.

Bei einem Superzellengewitter handelt es sich um viele einzelne Gewitterzellen, die sich in einer Art Cluster zu einer organisierten Struktur zusammenfinden und eine Rotation des sogenannten Aufwindbereiches zeigen. Ok, ich versteh es auch nicht wirklich, aber es sieht verdammt Ehrfurcht gebietend aus. Holy Shit… o_O

Death Star vs Enterprise

Solltet ihr euch auch schon immer gefragt haben, wer als Sieger aus dem Duell Star Wars vs. Star Trek hervorgeht - hier ist die endgültige Antwort.

Regisseur Mike Horn hatte bereits 2008, 2009 und 2012 mit seiner ganz eigenen Trilogie (Death Star over San Francisco, Death Star Destroys Enterprise, Death Star over Copenhagen) für Aufsehen gesorgt. Jetzt hat er für IGN noch einmal zugeschlagen und den ultimativen Fight Death Star vs Enterprise über der Bucht von San Francisco inszeniert:

After Star Trek IV, the crew of the Enterprise needed more whales, so they came back to San Francisco again, except this time it’s an alternate universe where Reagan’s Star Wars defense initiative from the 80′s is coming to fruition as the Death Star nears completion (superlaser already fully operational). Star Wars is our military.

Auf Evil Mad Scientist könnt ihr ab sofort eine ausführliche Berichterstattung zur 2013 Maker Faire in der Bay Area genießen. Für diejenigen, die damit nichts anfangen können: Die Maker Faire ist eine Messeveranstaltung für Hobby- und Profi-Erfinder, Tüftler, Bastler, Ingenieure, Wissenschaftler, Studenten und Unternehmen, die sich mit dem Konstruieren, also “Machen” von allerlei kuriosem Kram und tollen Spielereien befassen.
